They cancelled my core needle biopsy!?

I've gone through hell over the past three weeks with mammos, meetings, and worrying about having to have a core needle biopsy. I went to the appointment today to get it done (stressed RIGHT OUT, mostly about the procedure itself and not the results), and they told me that my microcalcifications were "too faint" to get a target! All after doing a third mammo, one that was so deep and hard i fainted!

So they cancelled the biopsy and have told me to wait 6 months, then come back for another mammogram to see if they have changed.

Is this normal?! Why did they even bother putting me through this at all? They could see the micros on my original mammos, but just not on the new one from today. I don't understand why I've been put through so much stress and I also don't understand why i'm so upset about this.

It's not common, but also not unheard of. They can't biopsy something that can't be seen, or even hardly seen. If waiting 6 months is too stressful for you of a wait, ask if you can go back in 3 months.

Sorry this happened to you. You have been on such high alert, and hormones, particularly endorphins. And now there is a "let down" phase.Take a deep breathe. Enjoy your summer, then reassess in the fall.

Thank you, Marie. I've just been so down about this since it happened this morning.

Do micros go away? Is there a chance these never existed? This is so confusing for me. Maybe I will ask them do revisit this in three months instead of 6. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, microcals can be reabsorbed. Microcals in and of themselves are harmless. You can get them from an injury and for other reasons. The reason sometimes biospies are recommended is if there are looking l like they are forming certain patterns, like clusters, or linear. It sounds like they are being prudent with you in wanting a biopsy, but not necessarily alarmed.

Here is a simple and understandable link that will help you have a better understanding about microcals
